We were lucky enough to host some of the best baristas from down under and world-over last week at the 2018 Latte Art Smackdown. It was really exciting to watch two of our own baristas compete, and to share our space with a community who’s just as passionate as we are about coffee.
Milk was spilt and reputations roasted when baristas battled for the title. It was Vicky Chuaybamrung of Darkstar Coffee in Perth who took home the first ever female Breezey Masters Champion title. Ben Lewis of Coffee Lab in the UK came in at second and Matt Sharp of Highroad/Ona Coffee in Canberra placed third.
This year’s Breezey Masters saw 11 finalists from all around the globe battle it out at The Grounds, using Almond Breeze Barista Blend almond milk to craft their finest latte. Think everything from hearts and rosettas to tulips, swans, mermaids and then some.
Australian competitors in the Breezey Masters Grand Final included Alex Whigham of My Kingdom for a Horse in South Australia, Vincent Do, and Chon Iat Lao of Ael in Victoria. International competitors included New Zealand’s Logan Collinge of Mojo Coffee, South Africa’s Idricia Nakahosa of Truth Coffee Company and Japan’s Takehiro Okudaira of Caferista.
Breezey Masters Champion, Vicky will be featured in Almond Breeze’s Barista Benchmark series that features “exceptional baristas”. You’ll see her face on the side of Almond Breeze Barista Blend packs that will be distributed to cafes all around Australia. Plus, she’ll get to choose whether she wants to travel to the UK for the London Coffee Festival or attend North America’s Specialty Coffee Expo in 2019.
We congratulate everyone on their achievements and can’t wait to smackdown again next year!
